ROOT CANAL TREATMENT: HOW IS IT DONE?

1. Diagnosis and Evaluation

The specialist takes an X-ray to assess the damage and the shape of the canals. If the nerve is inflamed or infected, a root canal is recommended to prevent tooth extraction.

2. Anesthesia and Isolation

• Local anesthesia is applied so the patient feels no pain. A rubber dam (latex barrier) is placed around the tooth to keep it dry and bacteria-free.

3. Opening and Cleaning the Canals

• The dentist makes a small opening in the tooth’s crown to access the pulp. The damaged tissue is removed, and the canals are cleaned using endodontic files and disinfectant solutions.

4. Sealing the Canals

• Once cleaned, the canals are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha, which seals the tooth to prevent reinfection.

5. Final Restoration

• A temporary or permanent filling is placed. In many cases, a dental crown is recommended to strengthen the tooth and restore its function.

Is It Painful?

• Thanks to anesthesia and modern techniques, the procedure is painless. Some mild discomfort may occur afterward, but it can be managed with pain relievers.

How Long Does It Take?

• Depends on the complexity, but generally, it takes 1 to 2 sessions of about 60-90 minutes each.
